Hania Amir

Hey! I completed my Master’s in Historical, Theoretical, and Critical Psychology at York University, and am now a first-year PhD student in the S/P area. My research interests include expressions of emotion and morality in political contexts. I love both qualitative and quantitative textual analysis methods, and hope to use more of both in the future! Apart from research, I dedicate my time to binge watching as much film media as humanly possible.

Philip Di Domenico

I am a first-year master's student in Social and Personality Psychology and am also pursuing a diploma in Quantitative Methods. My research interests focus on political beliefs, the spread of misinformation, and strategies to mitigate its impact. I am particularly interested in using text analysis and quantitative methods to study social and political phenomena. Outside of research, I enjoy working out, playing golf, learning new skills, cooking, and spending time with friends and family.

Undergraduate Students

Rory Alfano

Hi! My name is Rory and I am currently in my 4th year of my Honours BA in Psychology at the Glendon Campus with a concentration in Cognitive Neuropsychology. I have recently completed an Independent Research Project this summer under the supervision of Dr Wang and will be continuing in the Lab as the Lab Manager! I hope to pursue a MA and PhD in the clinical field focusing on treatment development research. Outside of school and research, I work in youth social services, I have a 1 year old cat, and I love travelling and exploring cities!

Naima Edwards-Lavoie - Thesis Student

Hi, everyone! My name is Naima Edwards-Lavoie, and I am a fourth-year undergraduate student in Psychology, doing a bilingual degree in the Specialized Honours stream! My academic interests are primarily in social psychology and mental health, and I plan to pursue my graduate studies in counselling psychology. My research interest for my thesis is examining how AI-generated and human-generated political messages influence perceptions of manipulativeness, persuasion and attitudes. In my free time, I enjoy reading, creating different forms of art, doing activities in nature and trying new foods. I also plan to do some mental health volunteering at a crisis hotline.

Selin Tuncer

Hello, my name is Selin Tuncer, and I am a fourth-year undergraduate student at York University’s Glendon campus. I am completing a Bilingual Honours BA in Psychology with a minor in Drama and Creative Arts. My research interests include mental health and well-being, particularly women’s mental health, relationships, personality, and social psychology. I am also interested in exploring the potential use of art in therapeutic settings and the connection between psychology and the creative arts. I plan to pursue graduate studies in mental health counselling and eventually practice as a psychotherapist. Outside of academics, my personal interests include creative arts, drawing and painting, exploring cosmetics, travelling, and spending quality time with my family and friends.

Saden Ba Wazir

A 4th-year BA (Hons) Psychology undergraduate student, currently completing concentrations in Counselling & Mental Health and Psychology & Law. Childhood crafts our inner and outer worlds, shaping the person we become and the aspects we attempt to understand, embrace, and heal. My research interests lie in my passion for understanding how early-life trauma during the developmental stages manifests as psychological abnormalities, ranging from mental disorders to more severe behaviours like criminal offending. I am all about self-care and personal growth, and I love spending time with my loved ones. I plan to pursue a Psy.D. and eventually become a clinical psychologist and a writer in my field.

Olivia Gallo

Hi!! My name is Olivia Gallo, and I am currently a fourth-year psychology undergrad at York University's Glendon campus. My research interests lie in the clinical-developmental field of psychology, specifically focusing on topics related to neurodivergent individuals and their families. I plan on becoming a Psychologist in this field. A fun fact about me is that I have two cats and a dog, and I enjoy reading as a hobby. 

Doğukan Soran

Hello! My name is Doğukan (Pronounced DoughKhan), I am a fifth-year psychology student from the Keele Campus of York University and am finishing up my Honours BA with a concentration in mental health and counselling. My interests in psychology include political psychology and clinical psychology, but I like learning about anything in psychology! I want to pursue Clinical psychology so I can keep practicing psychology as a psychotherapist. Outside of class and school, I like theatre and going to concerts, as well as just hanging out with my friends!
